Eduroam for Windows: Troubleshooting Installation or Connection Issues
If you’re unable to connect to eduroam on a Windows device, follow the troubleshooting steps below. These steps resolve the most common configuration, credential, and certificate-related issues.
1) Ensure You Are Using the Correct Username
Eduroam requires your full institutional email address, not your username.
Correct: username@elon.edu
Incorrect: username
Double-check for typos, as eduroam authentication is sensitive to incorrect usernames and email addresses.
2) Forget the Existing Eduroam Network
Sometimes Windows stores a corrupted or outdated profile.
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
- Click Manage known networks.
- Select eduroam.
- Click Forget.
- Reconnect to eduroam and enter your credentials.

3) Restart Your Computer
- Click on the Windows menu.
- Select the Power icon and Restart.
4) Test Another Device
Try connecting another device to eduroam. (Phone, iPad)
- If multiple devices fail, there may be an account issue. For account issues, please contact the Technology Service Desk at (336) 278-5200.
- If only one device fails, the issue is likely specific to that device.
5) Verify Date and Time Settings
Incorrect date or time settings can cause certificate validation failures.
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & Language > Date & Time.
- Enable Set time automatically.
- Click Sync now.
