Lost or Stolen Devices Procedure

In the event your device goes missing, please be aware that whomever has that device may be able to steal your identity. We strongly recommend resetting your passwords and reporting the issue as prescribed below as quickly as possible.

 

Personally-Owned devices

Lost or stolen personally-owned devices are a potential risk to yourself, especially if they contain sensitive or regulated data. When such losses or thefts occur, please follow these steps as soon as possible.

1. Report the incident to the local police department in the jurisdiction where the device was stolen.

2. Contact the Technology Service Desk so that we may verify your identity and provide you with a temporary bypass code until you receive a replacement device. If you are currently outside of the US, please use our LiveChat tool to schedule a web-conference for identity verification.

3. Contact your mobile phone provider to make arrangements toward purchasing a replacement device, etc.

Once you receive another device, you will need to download the Duo Mobile app and then try to authenticate. If you have a new phone number, you will need to enroll the new device through the Manage Duo Enrollment site. www.elon.edu/2fa

 

University-Owned devices

Lost or stolen university-issued devices are a potential risk to yourself and Elon University, especially if they contain sensitive or regulated data. When such losses or thefts occur, the university may be required to take specific actions within defined timelines as determined by federal and state privacy laws. If a university-issued device, such as a laptop, desktop, or mobile device, has been lost or stolen, please follow these steps as soon as possible:

  1. Report the incident to the local police department in the jurisdiction where the device was stolen.
  2. Contact the Technology Service Desk so that we may determine remediation steps for the device, verify your identity and provide you with a temporary bypass code until you receive a replacement device. If you are currently outside of the US, please use our LiveChat tool to schedule a web-conference for identity verification.
  3. Notify your supervisor.

Once you receive your new device, you will need to download the Duo Mobile app and re-enroll the device at www.elon.edu/2fa
