Canvas Help 24/7 Support

Body

The Help menu is Canvas way for faculty, staff, and students to get support from Canvas themselves (Elon is not involved on these options). The Help menu generates a list of resources to help you with Canvas. Canvas displays links according to roles in all enrollments. For example if you are marked as a student in all your classes you will receive help links student related, but if you are marked as an instructor, you will get extra help links for instructors. Meaning that most of the time you will be able to find meaningful help by accessing it.

One of the resources available through the Help menu is Canvas's 24/7 support. This service allows users to contact Canvas Support any time of the day or night through live chat or phone. Canvas 24/7 support can assist with general Canvas questions, troubleshoot technical issues, or navigating Canvas. Because support is available around the clock, users can receive assistance whenever they need it without waiting for normal business hours.

Using the Help Button

To get to the help menu, go at the bottom of Global Navigation, click the Help link.

Search the Canvas Guides

On the help menu you will see different links. The main one is "Search the Canvas guides" underneath the panda. This will take you to the Canvas documentation portal, here you will find information about a lot of the functionality of Canvas, things like navigation, or where to find information, and how to submit assignments. At the top right of the page you will find a magnifying glass symbol, clicking on it will allow you to search for your problem or what you want to do.

Migrate your Course from Moodle to Canvas

One of the first steps in preparing your course is moving your content from Moodle into Canvas. You can follow step-by-step guidance in either platform; choose the option that works best for you.

Chat with Canvas Support / Canvas Support Hot Line

With Canvas, all Elon faculty, staff, and students have access to 24/7 support provided directly by Canvas. Canvas Support can assist with a wide range of issues, including troubleshooting technical problems, submitting assignments, navigating Canvas features, resolving error messages, and answering general questions about how to use Canvas.

You can connect with Canvas Support at any time through live chat or by calling the Canvas Support Hotline. Both options are available from the Help menu after you log in to Canvas.

Ask your Instructor

Ask your instructor sub-menu. Showing the options: Which course is this question about? and Message

This will take you to a new form which will basically help you contact your professors through Canvas with questions you may have. To do that first select the course you have a question/comment from by clicking on the drop down menu then selecting the course. Then write the message to your professor in the text box. Once you are done writing you can click "send message" at the bottom right of the menu. Replies will be sent to your Conversations Inbox. If your course includes more than one instructor or Teaching Assistant (TA), your message will be sent as a group message to all instructors/Teaching Assistants (TAs) in the course.

Report a Problem

Report a problem menu, displaying the fields: subject, Description and how is this affecting you?

In the Subject field, create a subject for your ticket related to the problem you are having. Ideally is a way shorter version of what the issue is about.

In the Description field, describe the problem you are experiencing in Canvas. Please be as detailed as possible to help troubleshoot the problem.

The following information helps the Canvas support team more quickly resolve your question(s):

  • A link to the user or name and email of the user.
  • A link to the location where the error is occurring.
  • A summary of what is occurring.
  • A screencast or screenshot of what is occurring.
  • The steps you have taken for the Canvas support team to replicate what you are experiencing.
  • What resolutions you have already tried (i.e. cleared cache and cookies).
  • If any files are involved, please provide a copy of the file.
  • If it is a custom tool issue, please provide the name of the tool.
  • If there are any previous cases that may pertain to your question, please provide those case numbers.

If you're not comfortable using online links, you can submit attachments later if necessary; once you submit the ticket, you'll receive an email from the support team. You can reply to the email with any attachment as needed.

In the How is this affecting you? drop-down menu, select the statement that best describes how the problem is affecting you:

  • Just a casual question, comment, idea, suggestion
  • I need some help but it's not urgent
  • Something's broken but I can work around it for now
  • I can't get things done until I hear back from you
  • EXTREMELY CRITICAL EMERGENCY

When you're done, click the Submit Ticket button at the bottom right of the menu.

Notes:

  • Elon May add links over time to offer different sorts of help to students given different problems that may arise. So its always worth it to check the menu for help.
