Wireless Access for Guests

Occasionally, faculty or staff may need to provide wireless network access to a visiting colleague, vendor, or client. The process below makes this possible. Please note that the process below will create an account that provides an individual wireless access. It will NOT provide access to university-owned computers. See Domain and Wireless Access or contact the Technology Service Desk at 336-278-5200 for additional information.

To provide access, the faculty or staff "sponsor" can create a guest account. The account may be created up to 30 days in advance, but it only has an active lifespan of two days. If access is needed for longer than two days, either create another guest account, or contact the Techology Service Desk at 336-278-5200. Please note that these accounts can not serve multiple users. These created accounts only allow one person at a time to login.

To Create a Guest Account

Some users may have issues accessing the site. If you encounter this issue, you may need to add the website as a security exception.
  1. Click 'Advanced'
  2. Click 'Add Exception'
  3. Click 'Confirm Security Exception
  1. Open a browser and go to: http://wirelessguest.elon.edu
  2. You will be presented with a login screen.
  3. Enter your Elon University login credentials (same as email).
  4. Select "Create Guest Account" (on the left). The following page will allow you to provide the guest with login information. Enter the guest's name and their email address. Upon submission an account will be created. Login information will be displayed as well as sent to the email account that the guest provided.
Note: The default for the expiration of the account is midnight of the day created. If you choose to extend the account access to 48 hours, you must change the Account End: Date: in order for the account to be active 48 hours.
  5. Guests MUST use the "elonu-guest" wireless network. The authentication credentials will not work on any other wireless network.
  6. If you have additional questions, contact the Technology Service Desk at 336-278-5200.
