Issues with Adobe PDF Files: Opening or Printing

Cannot Open an Adobe PDF File

If you are unable to open a PDF file in a browser, you may receive the following error message, or the file may open to a blank gray screen:

"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat or Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again."

If you receive this error message, try the following steps:

  1. Open Adobe Reader or Acrobat
  2. Click on Edit
  3. Click on Preferences
  4. Click on Security (Enhanced)
  5. Uncheck Protected Mode at Startup. A box will pop up that stating, 'You Have Chosen To Turn Off Reader's Protected Mode. Are You Sure You Want To Continue?"  Click 'Yes'.
  6. Uncheck Enable Enhanced Security
  7. Click OK

Cannot Print an Adobe PDF File - Canon

If you encounter issues printing a PDF file, try these steps. If they do not work, contact the Technology Service Desk.

1.) Launch the PDF document, then select 'File' and 'Print'.

2.) Verify that 'Choose paper source by PDF page size' is unchecked.

3.) In the Print dialog box, click 'Advanced'.

4.) Select 'Print as Image', Then click 'OK'.

If It Still Does Not Print:

Open the PDF file.

Select File > Print > Properties. Under Output Size, if Match Page Size is selected, choose Letter from the drop-down menu. Then try printing the PDF again.

Sometimes PDF files are not formatted correctly or may be smaller than 8.5 × 11 inches. You can check the scale and page size in the print preview to determine the document's actual dimensions. Similar issues may occur with other document types if you receive a"Load Paper" or"Paper Needed" error message.

If you experience issues printing PDFs from Microsoft Edge, try the following:

Open Default Apps settings. Under Web Browser, if Microsoft Edge is selected, change it to your preferred browser. After selecting the browser, you may be prompted to make it the default application for opening PDF files. Confirm the selection and then try printing the PDF again.
