Enable Google Two-Factor Authentication

Tags student gmail

Please note: Elon's Office of Information Technology does not provide support for this feature beyond what is listed below.

Google Two-Step Verification, a form of two-factor or multi-factor authentication, uses your mobile device to verify your identity when logging in to email, financial and other accounts for an added layer of security. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your data, even if another person knows your password.

Features

  • Allows for use of second authentication method during login to Google services
  • Provides enhanced security
  • Enabling two-factor authentication is completely optional to our Elon Google users

When logging into Google services via Elon’s email login page (email.elon.edu), you will NOT be prompted for the second-factor. Google’s two-factor authentication method will ONLY prompt when logging in to your Elon Google account using one of the following:

  • Google App (e.g. Gmail for iOS)
  • Android device (e.g. configuring a cell phone that runs Android OS – Samsung, Google Pixel, HTC, etc.)
  • Other Google devices (i.e. PixelBook, ChromeBook)

How to Enable Google Two-Factor on Elon Accounts

Please follow instructions found on the Google Account Help two-factor authentication page.
