Moodle Learning Map Plugin

Summary

This article describes uses for the Learning Map plugin and how to set up a Learning Map activity in your Moodle course.

Body

Sometimes, instructors want to make course progress visible to students throughout the course term. While Moodle makes this possible via course completion tracking, instructors can use the Learning Map plugin to make the process more visually engaging for students.

Before adding the Learning Map plugin to your course, you should have some sort of image file created where you can add your course activities. You can create these images using software such as Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Illustrator, or even using an uploaded photo. It's a good idea to make sure the image is a high resolution, and that the aspect ratio fits well into the design of your course.

5. To associate a place marker with an activity, right click on the place marker. Select an activity from a list of available activities. Available activities include any activity or resource in your course that has completion tracking enabled. As students mark an activity as complete, or meet completion criteria for an activity, the dot associated with that place will change color from red to green.

  • Select "starting place" for an activity that starts the learning map sequence.
  • Select "target place" for an activity that comes after the starting place in the sequence.
