Eduroam for Windows: Troubleshooting Installation or Connection Issues

Eduroam for Windows: Troubleshooting Installation or Connection Issues

If you’re unable to connect to eduroam on a Windows device, follow the troubleshooting steps below. These steps resolve the most common configuration, credential, and certificate-related issues.

1) Ensure You Are Using the Correct Username

Eduroam requires your full institutional email address, not your username.

Correct: username@elon.edu
Incorrect: username

Double-check for typos, as eduroam authentication is sensitive to incorrect usernames and email addresses.

2) Forget the Existing Eduroam Network

Sometimes Windows stores a corrupted or outdated profile.

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  2. Click Manage known networks.
  3. Select eduroam.
  4. Click Forget.
  5. Reconnect to eduroam and enter your credentials.

3) Restart Your Computer

  1. Click on the Windows menu.
  2. Select the Power icon and Restart.

4) Test Another Device

Try connecting another device to eduroam. (Phone, iPad)

  1. If multiple devices fail, there may be an account issue. For account issues, please contact the Technology Service Desk at (336) 278-5200.
  2. If only one device fails, the issue is likely specific to that device.

5) Verify Date and Time Settings

Incorrect date or time settings can cause certificate validation failures.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Time & Language > Date & Time.
  3. Enable Set time automatically.
  4. Click Sync now.
