Set Up Webex Calling

Webex Calling is a collaboration tool that can allow users to work remotely and still have the benefit of their desk phone. Below are instructions on how to download and install Webex Calling. 

  • If you are not on campus, make sure you connect to VPN on your computer while using Webex Calling (see Related Articles for more info). ERP Off Campus and general VPN connections work equally well for this.
  • In order to use Webex Calling, you must either submit a request to have it enabled for your account, or have used Jabber in the past. Otherwise, the client will not work for you.

Instructions

  1. If you currently have Jabber installed, you must un-install and reboot your computer before proceeding.
  2. After restart, go to the website: https://www.webex.com/downloads.html/
  3. If you are on a Windows computer choose the 64-bit install. On a Mac computer, it will ask what type of chip you have:
    To find out, click on the apple icon at the top left and choose "About this Mac." (The Processor description will list the chip type.)
  4. Once installed, open Webex Calling
     
  5. Accept the Terms of Service and enter your Elon email address to get to the Elon login screen.
  6. Click continue. At this point, you should be logged into Webex Calling.
    • If you are asked for your user name and/or password a second time, please enter it.
  7. At this point you should be able to make and receive calls. Please see (future article) on using Webex Calling. 

After logging in, you will see your extension at the bottom of the client. Clicking the arrow next to it will give you some options, so go ahead and explore those. Webex Calling is a "soft phone" and should have a lot of the same functionality as your desk phone.
