Webex Calling Initial Setup

Congratulations on your upgraded phone!

There are a few changes we would like to explain.

  • Your phone is now based in the cloud, so it can work with a desk phone, but doesn’t need to. It is now capable of working on almost any device with an internet connection. An app is available for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices or the phone can be operated temporarily through a web browser.
  • You no longer need to dial “8” to call outside of the university, but 4-digit extensions will still work.
  • Voicemails can come with transcription to your email.

Whether you are using these options or sticking with the traditional desk phone, you will need to setup a voicemail PIN and customize the mailbox from the web. The following steps will help you with the process:

  1. Log in at settings.webex.com and enter your Elon email address.

  2. Choose the Settings gear at the top left > Calling >Voicemail to set your voicemail PIN.

  3. Under "Calling" you can manage all the settings for your softphone.

    We recommend doing the following:
    • To record your name for voice mail:
      • Call your extension or number from any phone and immediately press "*"
      • Enter your extension then "#"
      • Enter the PIN you setup in step 2 followed by #.
    • Configure your voicemail settings. In-depth instructions can be found here.
    • To receive email transcripts, toggle "Email a copy of the voicemail message" and enter the email address to send notifications to.
    • Consider setting a schedule to manage your availability.

  4. Now decide how you would like to use your new phone.

Simply download the phone app by going to https://www.webex.com/downloads on whatever device that you would like to use. (*The device needs to have a microphone and speaker/headphones to be used as a phone.)
