Google offers two methods to transfer your data out of your Elon Gmail account:
1. The Google transfer service allows you to transfer your Gmail mailbox and Google drive directly from your Elon Gmail account to a personal Gmail account.
- Keep in mind: Free Google accounts only allow up to 5 GB total for all files and emails. If your Elon Google email and Google drive exceed this you will need to purchase additional Google storage for your personal account before you will be able to do the direct transfer.
2. The Google takeout service allows you to save a copy of your Elon account data as a zip file for future use, with the ability to select multiple options on what data you'd like to save.
Click the "Show" check box to expand or hide the section.
Using The Google Transfer Service - Direct account transfer
1.) Sign into your Google account using your school email (example@elon.edu)
2.) Click on your profile picture and click 'Manage your Google account'.
3.) Go to the "Transfer your content" box and click on start transfer
4.) Put in your personal Gmail Account into the first box and the service will send a code to the personal Gmail Account.
5.) Go to the personal Gmail account and find the email with the verification code and click on the blue box
6.) Click the Continue Button and then select which services you want to transfer to your personal account
Using Google Takeout - Offline Account Transfer
1.) Sign into your Google account using your school email (example@elon.edu)
2.) Click on your profile picture and click 'Manage your Google account'.
3.) On the left side of the next page, select 'Data & privacy'.
4.) Scroll down to the section labeled 'Download or delete your data' and select 'Download your data'. This will take you to Google Takeout
5.) In Google Takeout, select from the list of data that you would like to export. Once you have selected all the data that you wish to export, click on 'Next step' at the bottom of the list.
6.) Change any settings for the file type or file size if necessary. Then, select 'Create export' when done.
7.) An email will be sent to your Outlook school email from Google containing your exported data from Google Takeout.
