Re-Enabled Email Account Security Verification

Steps after re-enabling Office 365:

(Note: The enabling process may take 3-5 minutes to sync across servers. If a user receives the "something went wrong" error and is unable to log into Office 365 immediately, please ask them to try again in one minute.)

  1. Log into your email account from a web browser (email.elon.edu)
  2. Once logged into your email account via web browser, click the Settings gear in the upper right corner. At the bottom, under "Your App Settings", select "Mail". (This window remains open to the right, while Mail settings will display to the left.)
  3. Complete the following actions:
  • Select Automatic replies. Delete any automatic replies that you did not set.
  • Select Inbox and sweep rules. Dispose and remove any rules that you not create.
  • If a rule is found, verify if it is sending mail to a specific folder. If so, review and retrieve any emails that should be moved back to the Inbox
  • Please remember to click SAVE after removing a rule
  • In Accounts (left side of the screen):
  • Select Block or Allow. Remove any entries that you did not make.
  • Select Forwarding. Disable and remove any entries that you did not make.
  • Click on Options (upper-left corner) to navigate to your Sent Item folder and review recently sent messages. Delete any messages you did not send (Advisable, but not required.)
  • Navigate to the Deleted Items folder; review and retrieve any emails that should not have been deleted. Once reviewed, you may empty the deleted items folder. (Advisable, but not required.)

Steps after re-enabling Gmail account:

  1. Log into your email account from a web browser (email.elon.edu)
  2. Once logged into your email account via web browser, click the settings gear in the upper right corner and select "settings"
  3. Complete the following actions:
  • Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. If there are any forwarding addresses not created by you, delete them. Ensure that "keep Elon University Mail's copy in the inbox is selected in Step 2 of the POP Download section.
  • Select Filters and Blocked Addresses tab. Delete any filters that you did not create.
  • Accounts and import tab. Make sure that "Send mail as" shows the correct display name. If not, click edit info and update appropriately.
  • Select the Inbox tab. Under Filtered mail, select Override filters and then click SAVE changes.
  • View the Sent Items folder to review recently sent messages. Delete any messages you did not send (Advisable, but not required.)
  • View the Trash folder; retrieve any messages that you did not move to the Trash folder. Once you have reviewed the messages, you may empty the Trash folder. (Advisable, but not required.)
