Add a Webcam Recording to Moodle

Kaltura allows you to upload webcam recordings on devices with a functioning webcam. if you would like to record a video that includes presentation slides or other visuals, please use the Kaltura Personal Capture. 

Instructors have two choices of how webcam recordings will be displayed in Moodle; either directly on the course homepage or on a separate page.

• If you would like the webcam recording to display directly on your course homepage, add the video in through a Moodle Label.
• If you would not like the video to display directly on your course homepage, but instead have students click off of the main course homepage to view it, add the video through a Moodle Page.

If you are a student submitting a webcam recording as an assignment in Moodle, go directly to Step 3. Please note students may only submit webcam recordings as assignments or in forums.

1.) Enter your Moodle course and click 'Add an activity or resource' in the topic of where you would like the webcam recording to display

2.) If you would like the video to display directly on the course homepage, select 'Label'; if you would not like the video to display directly on the course homepage, select 'Page'

• For demonstration purposes, we are using a Page.

3.) Enter a Title, then scroll down and click the Kaltura Media button in the Page Content section of the screen

• Note: You may have to click the first button next to 'Label text' to expand the rows to see the Kaltura Media button.

4.) Click 'Express Capture'

5.) On the prompt, click 'Allow'

6.) Click the red "Record" button to start your webcam recording

7.) When you are finished recording, click the stop button near the bottom of the webcam screen to stop the recording

8.) The webcam recording will now play in preview

1. If you would like to re-record your video, click the "Record Again" button.
2. If you want to save a copy of the video on your computer, click the "Download a Copy" button.
3. When you are satisfied with the video you've recorded, click the "Use This" button.

9.) Edit the video details and click "Save and Embed"

10.) Click 'Embed'

11.) Your webcam will be inserted - continue filling out the page as necessary

12.) Click 'Save and return to course' or 'Save and display' to preview your webcam recording

• Congratulations! You have successfully recording and uploaded a webcam recording using Kaltura!
