Within Moodle, we have four roles that can be assigned to users. The roles are outlined below including an overview of what each role is and is not able to do within Moodle. By default, all instructors of record within academic courses are given the "teacher" role and all students within academic courses are given the "student" role. 1. Teacher Role
Users with the "teacher" role have full course access and are the course administrator. Users with this role are able to:
- Edit course content, including hidden content
- Grade student work
- Add and remove users to the course, and change roles of users (such as "TLA" or "Non-editing Teacher")
- Use the "Switch role to..." setting to view content from other user perspectives.
2. Non-editing Teacher Role
Users with the "non-editing teacher" role are able to:
- See participants within the course
- See students work
- Grade student work

Users with the "TLA" role are able to:
- See participants within the course
- Edit course content, including hidden content
Users with the "TLA" role are unable to:
- Grade student work
- View grades within the course
5. Student Role
Users with the "student" role are able to:
- View content within the course that the instructor has made visible
- Submit their individual work
- See their individual grades
Users with the "student" role are unable to:
- View hidden content within the course
- View grades of other users
- Edit course content
