Spam is any unwanted email that can be advertisements for products or intended to steal university or your personal information. Phishing emails attempt to obtain the university’s or your private information, passwords, or account numbers to allow scammers to commit fraud. These emails use deceptive means such as forging the sender’s address and often ask for the reader to reply, call a phone number or click on a link in the message.

It is the responsibility of all Elon users to be knowledgeable of ways to protect both university and personal information. To report spam/phishing email threats, select "Report Spam/Phishing" and complete the form.

Also, you can also review current Information Security Alerts and review red flags commonly found in phishing emails on Elon's Information Security website.
