Elon University data is managed within a number of applications. Utilizing a virtual private network (VPN) and multi-factor authentication strengthens access security for the many faculty and staff who work within those platforms.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Elon University uses a two-factor authentication method, Duo Security, for logging into some web applications. Two-factor authentication enhances the security of your online accounts by using your mobile phone or landline phone to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.

Safelisting

Elon University provides protection from suspicious network threats. Occasionally these threats are mis-identified. Safelisting allows network assets to be deemed safe.

VPN

When off campus, a virtual private network (VPN) can be used to access protected resources typically available only on campus (e.g., Colleague, file servers, network, etc.). To use the VPN system, you must have a VPN account. All faculty, staff, and students have access to VPN by default.
